Overview

Seedly, founded in 2016, is Singapore's biggest personal finance community. Originally an expense tracking app, it has evolved into an open crowdfund platform where users seek financial knowledge through unbiased reviews. Seedly joined forces with Hyphen Group, Asia's leading fintech company, in 2020. In 2019, Seedly held its first personal finance festival attended by over 1,200 Singaporeans, featuring booths, games, guest speakers and Q&A sessions.

As their community grew, so did the ambition of the annual festival. By 2021, Seedly's event had become the reference point for personal finance education in Singapore - an event where fintech companies, banks, insurance providers, and community members came together to discuss money, investments, and financial independence. The challenge was executing this at scale on a virtual event platform that could handle both the technical demands and the community experience.

Seedly's team needed a platform capable of handling thousands of simultaneous streams without performance degradation, while also preserving the interactive, community-driven atmosphere that had made the physical festival a success. A basic webinar tool would not suffice - the virtual festival needed to replicate the feel of a multi-zone physical event, with sponsor booths, breakout sessions, live audience interaction, and prize giveaways.

The Challenge

In 2019, Seedly's first physical festival was a huge success with over 1,200 attendees. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, their plans for another physical festival had to be cancelled. In 2021, Seedly made the decision to go virtual - but achieving the same level of engagement and interaction in an entirely virtual environment was a significant challenge.

The core tension was between scale and interactivity. The financial services community in Singapore is tightly networked, and exhibiting sponsors needed to engage visitors directly - not just display banner ads. Attendees expected to be able to ask questions to speakers, interact with exhibitors, and discover new financial products in a way that felt participatory rather than passive.

On the technical side, the 2021 edition was projected to far exceed the 1,200-person attendance of the physical event, given that geography was no longer a barrier. This meant the virtual event platform needed to sustain high-bandwidth video streams for thousands of concurrent users without latency issues, buffering, or crashes - a high bar for a live financial event where real-time information delivery matters.

The Solution

With Micepad's comprehensive feature set, Seedly hosted numerous event activities virtually - including post-event surveys, lucky draw stages and booth exhibitions. The platform also fed live Q&A during events and supported concurrent multi-track stages, meeting Seedly's expectation of running different sessions simultaneously.

Micepad's virtual event platform was configured to replicate the physical festival structure in a digital environment. The main stage hosted keynote presentations from financial industry leaders, while breakout tracks ran concurrently for topics including personal investing, insurance planning, and cryptocurrency. Attendees could move between tracks freely, just as they would walk between rooms at a physical venue.

Virtual sponsor booths were set up for each exhibiting company, allowing attendees to browse product information, watch demo videos, and initiate live chat with booth representatives. The lucky draw feature created excitement throughout the day - participants earned entries by engaging with content, visiting booths, and answering polls, incentivising active participation rather than passive viewing.

The 30-day post-event replay was a significant value-add for both attendees and sponsors. Attendees who could not attend live had access to all session recordings, and sponsors gained extended visibility beyond the event day itself. Post-event surveys were deployed automatically at the end of each session, giving Seedly rich feedback data without requiring manual follow-up.

Results

The 2021 virtual festival was executed extremely smoothly. Micepad's stable, high-performance backend hosted a peak of 5,600 concurrent live attendees from 6,100 tickets sold. Attendees responded extremely positively, especially appreciating the ability to review content for 30 days following the event.

The jump from 1,200 physical attendees to 5,600 concurrent virtual attendees represented a more than 4x increase in reach - driven entirely by the removal of geographic and venue constraints. Sponsors reported stronger lead generation than comparable physical events, given the structured booth engagement tools and the extended replay window.

Kenneth Lou, Co-Founder and CEO of Seedly, noted that Micepad's platform was instrumental in enabling the community to scale. The ability to run a professional-grade virtual event platform without a dedicated technical team allowed Seedly to focus on curating great content and partnerships rather than managing infrastructure.

Implementation Details

The Micepad setup for Seedly's virtual festival began several weeks before the event date. The team worked with Seedly to configure the multi-track stage layout, onboard sponsor booth representatives, set up the lucky draw mechanics, and test streaming performance under load conditions. Pre-event testing included stress testing concurrent stream capacity to validate that the platform could handle the projected 5,000+ attendee peak.

Ticket registration was managed through Micepad, with QR code-based access links distributed to registered attendees ahead of the event. This eliminated anonymous access and gave the Micepad team real-time visibility into attendance counts and stage distribution throughout the day. The live Q&A feed was moderated by Seedly's team, with questions approved before they appeared on screen during sessions.

On event day, a dedicated Micepad support team monitored platform health in real time, with escalation protocols in place for any technical issues. The smooth execution with 5,600 concurrent attendees validated the infrastructure investments made in the platform's backend.
